CMCA transforms donor engagement with all-in-one software backed by coaching

Background

Central Missouri Community Action’s (CMCA) legacy goes back to 1965 when President Lyndon Johnson established a national movement to eradicate poverty. CMCA tackles poverty one family at a time, connecting them with the services and resources they need. While CMCA receives funds from the government, many of the nonprofit’s services depend on individual donors.

Challenges

Because the federal government funds part of CMCA, the nonprofit deals with a common misconception that it doesn’t need donations from the community. Cheryl, director of development at CMCA, needed personalized help engaging new and lapsed donors and robust, unified software to put those learnings into action.  

Before Bonterra Network for Good, she was using Raiser’s Edge, which was a little too technical for her needs, and Raceplanner, which was difficult to use for tracking donors.

Outcomes

Pairing that coaching with the new, simplified tech, CMCA has seen: 

- Recurring donors quickly jump from 10 to 20
- Donor retention double from 18% to 44%
- Income increase year-over-year
