Measuring CSR’s value has never been simple. But for decades, the core metrics leadership cared about were relatively straightforward: dollars given, hours logged.
Not anymore. Today’s teams are expected to show finer-grained evidence of impact, including direct routes to ROI, employee retention, and community-wide outcomes. And they’re expected to produce all this on a siloed system built for a simpler time, with no additional hands on deck.
Bonterra’s latest research initiative, The Integrated CSR Report, breaks down what that disconnect means for CSR teams in 2026 and beyond. Drawing on a new survey of 150 CSR decision-makers, Bonterra’s own platform data, and external benchmarks, it identifies five features of effective integrated CSR — and practical, actionable steps for optimizing each one.
What’s inside:
- The old tech stack is broken. Ninety-five percent of teams manage their work across four or more disconnected tools, 51% use seven or more, and no respondents describe their systems as “fully integrated.”
- The bar is rising, but headcount isn’t: Ninety-one percent of CSR leaders report their companies are investing more in CSR overall, and 73% report growing pressure to prove ROI to the powers that be. Still, most teams aren’t given the resources to hire additional staff.
- Employees want in, but most programs can’t connect the dots. Employee giving has grown 21% over the past three years, but just 1% of companies report participation rates of 75% or more.
